Police Notes // I am a police officer in Florida for the past 13 years. I write "policenotes" in blog form for people to see just what it is like to be a police officer. Some of the posts are funny, some serious, and some educational. I hope you enjoy reading my posts and please feel free to ask any questions you may have. If you have something you would like to contribute to the blog such as photos, stories, or videos, email post@policenotes.posterous.com
While on patrol my partner and I see a car sitting at the end of a cul-de-sac. We watch it for a few minutes and then it starts to pull away. We turn the lights on and the driver tries to drive around us. He finally realizes that the police are stopping him and he stops. He, along with his passenger, open the car doors and they put their hands up.
We approach the car and see 2 guys in the front. We start to talk to them and realize a girl is hunched over laying down in the back seat. The conversation that follows is pretty funny.
Officer: "What's with the girl?"
Driver: "What girl?"
Officer: "Um the girl in the back seat who is either sleeping, unconscious, or dead!"
Driver: "Ooooooo That girl." (like we just reminded him he had a girl sleeping or dead in the back) " She is just drunk"
So about this time my partner is checking to make sure she is ok and alive. She is breathing but passed out. I then look into the car and notice the front cup holder is full of liquid. I tell my partner to look in and when I do the passenger says, "It's not alcohol!" Oooook, so you just keep Pepsi in the front cup holder for????? Maybe he was going to bend down and sip it with a straw later on. I don't know. This is going downhill.
We finally get the girl to wake up and we tell her to sit up. She says she is. We say no you are laying down, sit up. She responds again that she is. My partner is finally able to get her upright and she looks at me and says, "Oh we used to date!." Ok listen I'm 31, your 18. I highly doubt we used to date.
Could this get any worse? Yes. We start to talk to the driver and ask him why he is driving because he is drunk. He says, "I'm not driving, he is" and points to his friend in the passenger seat. OK, We ask the passenger, who is actually sober where they are going and he tells us this whole story about how they are going to the driver's house to get his car, then they are going to drop the girl off at home, and then they are coming back home, which is 2 houses down from where we stopped them.
When he is done telling us where they are going, the driver blurts out, "We are just parking and going back inside." So you were in front of his house and you decided to pull down the street to park and then go back inside? I'm so lost. He does not pass the sobriety tests and ends up getting an underage drinking and driving citation. The sober one goes back inside and we call the girls parents to pick her up.
Drunks are funny. Just glad we stopped him before he hurt or killed himself and/or others.
