Police Notes // I am a police officer in Florida for the past 13 years. I write "policenotes" in blog form for people to see just what it is like to be a police officer. Some of the posts are funny, some serious, and some educational. I hope you enjoy reading my posts and please feel free to ask any questions you may have. If you have something you would like to contribute to the blog such as photos, stories, or videos, email post@policenotes.posterous.com
This is a photo of crash where the driver (22 years old) was racing another car. The driver lost control and struck a tree. As you can see the car split in half and the driver was ejected. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.
Get a call of a 2 vehicle crash in an intersection. There are no injuries and I move both cars off the road. The at fault driver, who is 15 and just got a learner's license 2 months ago, tells me she made a left turn in front of another car and didn't realize how close she was. She totally admits fault and good because she was.
Her father arrives on scene and tells me he got into a fight with his insurance company so he canceled the insurance and never got around to updating it. Basically he has no insurance. The girl has her brother in the car that is 20 years old. When you have a learner's license you must have a 21 year old licensed driver with you. You may also not drive at night unless you have had your learner's for 3 months then you may only drive up until 10 pm. She was violating all of these.
I give her 3 tickets and tow the car because it has no insurance. I wish I could have given the dad a no insurance ticket since he was the one who cancelled it. Oh well he will be paying for the other car's damage and his daughters tickets!
Do you think 15 is too young to be driving?
